GILES, Wilfrid Woodhouse - April 10, 2010

GILES, Wilfrid Woodhouse (June 23, 1919 - April 10, 2012) From Richmond Review Wilf passed away in Richmond on April 10th, 2012, at the age of 92.

He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, June, and his daughters, Fran (Ray) and Lorna (Adrian), granddaughter, Chanda, and four great grandsons, Devon, Zachary, Logan and Chase; along with family members here and in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

Wilf worked for the former Pacific Western Airlines (Canadian Airlines) as a sheet metal worker for 28 years until his retirement in 1984. A funeral service will not be held, in accordance with Wilf's wishes.

OPAL MISCAVISH October 28, 1925 - October 25, 2010  - With the rain gently falling and surrounded by her family, Mom's spirit took flight. After a short battle with cancer she was released from the bonds of this earth.

Waiting to welcome her at the gates of heaven were her husband Casmer; parents Lucia and John; sisters Margaret, Joyce; brothers Emmitt and Murray. Left behind to feel Opal's absence are her children Sheryl, Rick (Elaine), Patricia (Deen) and Paul; sister Gertrude; sister-in-law Joan; grandchildren Michelle (Heath), Tammy (Chris), Deedra, Bryson, Ryan, Brandon, Jennifer (Tim), Michael, Jill, David and Aaron; great grandchildren Samantha, Christopher, Hailey, Breanne and Tanner as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mom was born in Chelmsford, Ontario and, as a young adult, she moved to Sudbury to live with her sister. She was an usherette at the Capital Theatre. She joined the Air Force during World War II and was stationed in Winnipeg where she packed parachutes for the paratroopers. Opal met Casmer and they were married in April, 1950. They raised their family in Winnipeg but took many vacations by train to Ontario to visit her family. She worked at Transair Airlines which later became Pacific Western Airlines. Once Mom retired, she and Dad started to travel in their motor home. They traveled from coast to coast, to Alaska and through the United States. For a period of time Mom lived in Gimli and took great pleasure in watching the families of geese that arrived every spring. She enjoyed watching the goslings grow and learn to fly. She would drive each day to check on the little families and always be amazed at the fact that they needed to be taught to fly and to land. These are things that Mom says she had never really thought about until she saw it taking place. She would always give a daily report on their progress.

Mom was very active and enjoyed aquacising and walking. She was always out and about, having lunch with friends, going to bingo, or exchanging books. She was an avid reader and books were to be found everywhere (even in the trunk of her car). Mom made sure she lived her life to the fullest. She will be missed by many.

On Wednesday, November 3, 2010, Opal's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street @ Manitoba Avenue. We would like to thank the Nurses, Health Care Aides and Housekeeping staff at Grace Hospital. Mom enjoyed their company when they stopped by for a chat. There are far too many special people to mention but on her last day fate had it that each and every one of you were there. A special thank you goes out to Joyce, a very special woman that helped not only Mom, but the rest of us.
