CRAIG, George Laughlin - October 26, 2012

It is with deep regret I advise the passing of Captain G.L. (George Laughlin) Craig on October 26, 2012.

George was one of the most well thought of, and highly regarded Pilots at Canadian Pacific Airlines.  It was, by any measure, a life well lived.

He was born on June 16th, 1922 in Fitzroy Harbour Ontario; He lived and attended school in that area.

He went off to fight for his Country by enlisting in the Royal Canadian Airforce on December 26th 1940.  He graduated in September, 1941, and was assigned to 424 Squadron based in Skipton Swale, North Yorkshire U.K..  He was considered a courageous  Leader and excellent Airman during his Airforce career.  He flew not only with the R.C.A.F., but also with R.A.F. in raids of over 1000 aircraft.

He flew thirty one missions deep into Enemy Territory, and each time guided his aircraft and crew home to Britain safely while sustaining incredible damage to his Halifax Aircraft from Enemy ground fire and Nazi night fighters; and on more than one occasion returned home on three engines and failed hydraulic systems with an aircraft that was well beyond repair.

George was honourably discharged in January 1946 , and was awarded numerous medals and commendations, among others, the Distinguished Flying cross and star by the Governor General who commented "in recognition of gallantry and devotion to duty in execution of air operations against the enemy".  The outstanding results he achieved on operations made him a leader in his Flight.

George joined Canadian Pacific Airlines in 1947 in Edmonton, as a DC-3 co-pilot.  He and the family afterwards spent some years in Montreal before moving to Vancouver in 1960.  He flew at that time, the DC-6B, then Bristol Brittania, then DC-8, and retired in 1982, as a senior B-747 Captain.

George leaves his loving wife Pat, and his four adult children- Janet (John) McMaster and son Michael;  Marilyn (Mark) Armitage  and sons Graham and Glen;  Richard, and  Robert (Vicki), and his two children, Linda and Trevor Craig.

He was a wonderful Husband, a dedicated Father and Grand-father, and loving and loyal friend; always ready to generously assist and support those in need.
There is a brick at the Juno Beach Center in Normandy France  honoring F/L George Craig's wartime courage and dedication to Country in the years 1940-1946.

He will be deeply missed by everyone.  Thankyou for your friendship George.  Your missions are accomplished;  May God Bless you,  knowing you are loved and missed by us all.

Memorial is on November 2, 2012 at 2:00pm, at St. Annes Anglican Church Richmond.  Internment at Valley View Funeral Home on November 3, 2012 at 2:30pm

WELLS, Captn. Ernest Wells - December 8, 2010

Captain Ernest Wells (Ernie) died unexpectedly on December 8, 2010 doing what he loved most, travelling, in a city he loved, Buenos Aires. He is survived by his wife Barbara and three sons. He began his flying career in 1954 with Canadian Pacific Airlines and retired from Canadian in 1993. He always said that he never worked a day in his life.
It is poetically apt that his life ended in Buenos Aires, the city where he was based very early in his career, flying the first Canadian Pacific flights between Lima and Buenos Aires. He worked one day a week and golfed the rest while based in Buenos Aires. It was the fond memories of that early period in his professional life that drew him back to Buenos Aires at the end of his life.

Ernie had a passion for flying, loved his job and often commented on how lucky he was to have been a pilot in what he regarded as the heyday of flying. He also had an unbridled
passion for food and wine. Ernie would have been pleased in life to have known that in death others might spare him a thought when indulging their gustatorial appetites during this festive season. There will be no memorial service, and a decision on an alternative celebration has not yet been made On behalf of Ernie’s family,
