Hello to All Members.

I have received several comments regarding the growth in negative and uncivil posts in the various threads. And I agree. Many threads have been started only to take a turn in the wrong and unintended direction and though the posts are within the 'letter of the law' of posting guidelines, the 'spirit of the law' is not being observed.

Such behaviour is becoming increasingly offensive to a growing number of long standing AC Family members with some even entertaining leaving the site or just not posting any longer. We just can't have that!

Moderation will in future eliminate as much negativism as possible without destroying or altering entirely, members' opinions. While it's certaimly OK to express one's opinion, even strongly, against another's, moderating practices will attempt to assure civility and respect amongst members.

Let's bring back the Family into the AC.
As moderators we have the task of maintaining a certain decorum while not trampling on the free exchange of thoughts and opinion. We strive to balance our editorial power against the encouragement of flow of and exchange of ideas. Strong debate is a good thing provided there is respect. Fostering that interchange amongst Family members can sometimes result in opinions deemed unfavorable to some and always there will be others ready to pounce on and elaborate on the negative.

Our job then is to overlook the negative nabobs, provided they remain within the posting guidelines outlined by Admin; ostracism is a fine tool when used properly. Your job then, as a valued, competent and reliable contributor, is to do the same.

Your comment about negativism has not gone unheard, rest assured!

With my reply in mind, we at AC Family encourage you and others of similar opinion, to 'hang in there'.

Dear Members.

Being in a labour dispute isn't a fun thing. I know this from experience because I was involved in the only Flt. Att. strike against AC many years ago. I understand the stress and worry and the financial loss too. I also know that faced with loosing one's job and source of income is probably the most stressful thing in many employees' lives right now.

ACFamily is a great place to remain in contact with fellow employees and an effective tool for communication. Having said that, I must remind all members that posting any information involving rallies, demonstrations, strike action of disruption will result in having the post removed and that continued posts of that nature may well get the member banned from further posting for an undermined amount of time. Already, two valuable members have been relieved of their posting privileges: I'd rather not have to repeat that for anyone else hence the caution.

Admin is clear in his comments that he does not want ACFamily involved in any kind of litigation, he does not have the resources ($$$) to spend on defense and he most definitely does not want to be forced to close the site down.

So in keeping with this most reasonable request, I remind all members to please abstain from posting anything remotely related to any kind of action.

Thanks for everyone's understanding and compliance.

When I joined AC as a FA, I felt proud to wear the company's uniform. I remember during our training at Dorval, we were told that the guys wearing Red Hats were mechanics and we should appreciate the job they did. I also remember taxing by the hangers in Dorval ( I know there were others in the West, of course), that contained aircraft with fin tail colours from many airlines. It was said then that AC had the best maintenance and safety record in the world and that airlines respected what AC Maintenance did. I remember taking a lot of pride in that.

What's happening now is making me sick.

Not posted as a Mod., but as a former employee.
Damn, how things change. My heart is with today's men and women facing this difficult challenge.
When I clicked on the link, I was taken to a site that included the first four numbers of my client card and it asked me for the remaining numbers and my password. Of course I didn't enter anything and just exited out without leaving any information, well, perhaps by my going to the site validated my email. But then, these fraudsters already had that, didn't they.

JUST DELET THESE THINGS FOLKS and don't allow yourselves to fall prey. If your bank wants to get a hold of you, it will be done inside it's own web online banking site, NOT THROUGH EMAILS!

As a moderator I am witness to an ongoing debate and labour struggle as posted by ACFamily members who regularly visit the Union Thread and as such feel motivated to express some thoughts about the plight of some of our fellow employees.

I'm commenting in here to draw the attention to a certain department of Air Canada who's members are now in the throws of making what for some may well be a life changing decision, that of remaining with Air Canada and moving to another base or remaining at a base and changing their employer. In either case the implications are serious and making the decision is cause for much stress.

One must consider children, schooling, spousal job/career, selling a home and leaving family and friends on the one hand and giving up long and hard earned employment seniority and perks to remain where one is comfortable, on the other. Both place the one having to make the decision in an uncomfortable situation, one that I do not envy.

Let us all think positive thoughts for all of these people now undergoing this unpleasant time in their lives and wish them courage and strength to move forward.

Best regards to all concerned.
I'm beginning to receive emails from various banking institutions and, something new this time, my internet provider. ALL ARE FRAUDULENT of course and designed to dupe you into providing the creators with your personal banking information. DO NOT REPLY to these things, even if it's to tell them to get stuffed.

There is such confusion regarding the two different pass rules that I thought placing the subject as a blog, for all to see will be of immense help.

Below, in blue, are Kittycat's comments regarding C1 vs C2 pass travel.

Kittycat also provided exact quotes from ACTravel and under normal circumstances such direct quotations would not be permitted as Air Canada does not allow the posting of its proprietary information. However, since knowledge and proper interpretation of the C1 and C2 travel rules and regulations by AC employees, both retired and active, is beneficial for all concerned, I have taken it upon myself to post those in here also.

I truly believe Air Canada will not be offended in this specific instance. But should that not be the case, I shall accept full responsibility and remove them if necessary upon request.

So here are Kittycat's comments followed by some of the actual regulations as they pertain to C1 and C2 pass travel.

Thank you Kittycat for taking the time to respond. Hopefully all concerned will stand to benefit from knowing the information.
2) You cannot book a C1 within 24 hours of a flight (if flight leaves at 9:30 am tomorrow you have to book C1 by 9:29 am today)
3) You can book a C2 anytime up to cutoff time for flight ( I assume that is about 30 minutes before flight but always allow extra time)
4) You can cancel your C1 or not show up and it will have no effect on your allotment.

Hi Everyone,

I thought I'd enable this new feature (BLOGS) that has been introduced with the recent upgrade. We will enable it for the Admins and Mods at first for testing purposes and depending on how it works, we will enable it either for specific groups or individuals.

As you may know, Blogs are very popular on the Internet, here's Wikipedias definition of a Blog...

A blog (a contraction of the term "web log")[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (Art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (Video blogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Microblogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.

I am also working on other improvements to the site and thought this would be a great way to both test this addition and use it to let you know what is happening here.
